International Air Connections
Michigan's airports give easy access to any destination in the world. Flights to all major cities are nonstop or one-stop from Detroit Metro, Gerald R. Ford International (Kent County) and several other airports.

Detroit Metro is the largest North American hub for Northwest Airlines and the state's largest air cargo facility. Passenger traffic for the year ending September 2004 was 34.6 million. DTW is a leading international point of departure, with regular nonstops to 16 foreign destinations:

  • 4 cities in Europe (London, Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt)
  • 3 in Asia (Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya in Japan)
  • Mexico City
  • 7 Canadian (Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, London, Kitchener/Waterloo and Halifax)
  • Amman, Jordan

Seasonal destinations include: Rome, Vancouver, Bermuda, Nassau, Winnipeg, Charlottetown, Calgary, Cancun, Montego Bay, Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Puerta Vallarta.

Geography gives Metro Airport an advantage as an international gateway. Because Northwest flies the Great Circle route over the Arctic from Detroit to Asia, taking advantage of the Earth’s curve, travelers will save 2,000 miles and at least three hours over those changing planes in Los Angeles.

Other seasonal nonstop international destinations: Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Zihuatanejo, Mexico; Grand Cayman, British West Indies and St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles.
