Allegan County

Allegan County is located in the southwest part of the lower peninsula, east of Lake Michigan. It is traversed by I-196, US-31, M-40, and M-89. The county contains 832 square miles and is the 18th largest in the state. The county seat is Allegan. Allegan County is largely agricultural, with almost half the land in farms. The county also has a strong manufacturing base and relies increasingly on the service industry. Allegan County offers an abundance of hunting, fishing, boating, and other outdoor recreation and is the home of Saugatuck Dunes State Park.
