Baraga County

Baraga County's economic history is based on the utilization of its natural resources. While natural resources still make an important contribution to the total community, the economic base is now much more diverse. The major sectors of the economy include manufacturing, particularly durable goods; the service sector, primarily the tourism industry; and the governmental sector through a correctional facility. The agricultural sector, while a small part of the total economy, is still very much a part of the community fabric in the county. The open spaces created by the farming areas and the forests contribute to some very scenic landscapes.
