Clare County

The first settlement in Clare County began at the close of the Civil War. The county played an important role in northern Michigan's lumbering era by furnishing millions of feet of logs and lumber to Bay City and Saginaw. Today, Clare County is a rural forested county reliant on tourism for its economic base. It is located in the center of Michigan's lower peninsula. The Tittabawassee State Forest and numerous inland lakes make the area attractive for recreation. Mid-Michigan Community College is located north of Harrison. US-27 divides the county east from west, providing north-south access. US-10 provides east-west access to the south as does M-61 to the north.
