Gladwin County

Gladwin County is located in a rural, forested area near the center of Michigan's lower peninsula. Agriculture accounts for nearly 37% of the county's area. Approximately 51% of the county is forested and the Tittabawassee State Forest makes up a large portion of this area. Iimportant water resources are the Tittabawassee, Molasses, Cedar, and Tobacco Rivers and their impoundments, and Pratt and Wiggins Lakes. There are resort, second and seasonal homes on many of these waters. Gladwin is in close proximity to the cities of Midland, Bay City, Saginaw, and Mt. Pleasant, therefore the county's economy is affected by these areas. Many residents of Gladwin County commute to outlying areas for employment. Within the county, employment is reliant upon retail trade, government, health services, and the manufacture of plastics. North-south access is provided along M-18 and M-30. M-61 provides east-west access.
