Schoolcraft County

Schoolcraft County lies along the Lake Michigan shoreline and encompasses the City of Manistique as well as vast tracts of public forest. The economy is largely based on natural resources and tourism, with Manistique Papers, the nation's largest recycler of old magazines and catalogs, being the principal industrial employer in the county. The Hiawatha National Forest, Seney National Wildlife Refuge, and several state parks contribute to the wide range of outdoor recreational opportunities in the county. State and national forests also provide raw materials which are used locally and exported around the world for use in production.
