Engler: Michigan is the “Hot” Place to Be
Sizzling State is #1 for New Business Sites and Facilities
Governor Engler announced today that Michigan is the number one “Hot Spot” for business sites and facilities, according to Plants Sites & Parks magazine.
Plants Sites & Parks publisher Len Scaffidi presented Governor Engler with the 2001 Tiffany Cup for the state’s outstanding track record.
“The experts have determined that, once again, Michigan is ‘hot,’ said Governor Engler. “Michigan is sizzling hot with new business investments and expansions. This award is great news for Michigan. Our economic programs have focused on attracting, retaining and assisting companies, convincing them that Michigan is ‘hot.’ Victories such as this prove the success of our efforts.”
The magazine’s annual “Hot Spots” ranking is a comprehensive examination of new office and industrial projects throughout the United States. Plants Sites & Parks surveyed all the states for details about projects announced, built or opened from July 2000 through June 2001. The criterion for the ranking was twofold. First, readers were asked where they would like to go for their next business project in the upcoming year. Second, Bizsites Monitor (www.bizsites.com) reviewed where businesses have actually gone in the last year. Other criteria included creation of a minimum of 20 jobs, 20,000 square feet of new space or a capital investment of at least $1 million.
“Congratulations to the state’s entire business community,” said Scaffidi. “It’s a pleasure to present the Tiffany Cup, representing the fact that companies voted with their feet, checkbooks, business plans and investment capital, to say that Michigan is number one.”
The list highlights 11 states that have demonstrated they have the necessary ingredients to make corporate clients take notice. Michigan ranked ahead of New York, California, North Carolina and Ohio.
