MEDC Offers Community Development Workshops
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) in partnership with the Michigan Municipal League (MML) is hosting Community Development Workshops at five locations in November and December: Jackson (November 3), Port Huron (November 5), Ludington (November 12), Alpena (November 19) and South Haven (December 2). “This is a golden opportunity for economic developers and local officials to learn about all the tools available to facilitate strong communities,” Greg Main, MEDC President and CEO said. “Putting Michigan’s economic and community development tools to work can help make communities more attractive to residents, visitors, employers and employees.” The local presentations will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are hosted, respectively, by the Enterprise Group of Jackson, City of Port Huron, City of Ludington, Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and City of South Haven. There is no charge for the programs. The MEDC’s Community Assistance Team (CAT) will present information on 17 different state programs that are available to assist community development projects. Topics include: Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts, 2010 Community Development Block Grants program and Brownfield Redevelopment. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a CAT Specialist to discuss specific projects. Workshop dates and locations are:
