Planning/Market Studies

The Community Assistance Team (CATeam) can provide guidance to cities and villages that want to identify markets and can provide a comprehensive plan for the revitalization of downtowns. In addition, county level economic development strategies can also be done.

Typically, these planning and marketing studies may include the following components:

Downtown Market Studies:

  • Identify market areas for downtown.
  • Analyze existing downtown retail operations with the purpose of enhancing existing businesses and attracting new businesses.
  • Identify demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the downtown market area.
  • Identify the potential housing market for downtown.
  • Assess the downtown retail climate.
  • Analyze the current physical conditions of downtown businesses, public infrastructure, and vacant buildings.
  • Determine the best potential uses of currently vacant or underutilized buildings.

County-wide Economic Development Studies:

  • Includes preparing a historical, comparative economic analysis of county vs. state and national data which examines the composition of the local economy.
  • Develop employment and earnings goals over a 10-year horizon to elevate the county.
  • Create a targeted industry report.
  • Prepare a 5-year community development program focusing on recruitment, retention, marketing, organization, staffing and delivery of services.
