Auto detailing implies a thorough cleaning of an automobile's interior and exterior surfaces, pin-striping, detailed painting, etc.

Technician, individual, or other persons who for compensation repairs motor vehicles including the reconditioning, replacement, adjustment, or alteration of the operating condition of any component or subassembly of a motor vehicle should contact the Department of State at (517) 241-0137 for license/permit information.

If the restoration of an auto involves sanding, painting, etc., please contact the Department of Environmental Quality for information about the disposal of used paint containers or other chemicals that may be used to detail/restore a vehicle(s) at (800) 662-9278.
