When employed by a county, city or township to examine the personal property or cost records of an individual or business for property tax purposes, a certification is required with the Department of Treasury, Bureau of Local Government Services, Assessment and Certification Division at (517) 373-0500.

When engaged in the business of adjusting the loss or damage by fire or other hazardous losses under any insurance policy, a license is required with the Department of Labor and Economic Growth, Office of Financial and Insurance Services at (517) 373-0220 or toll-free (877) 999-6442.
