Any materials that are purchased for completion of a job and the cost of the materials are consumed by the contractor are  taxable items.  Contact the Michigan Department of Treasury for a Michigan Sales Tax License at (517) 636-4660. 

Other Possible License(s):

When engaged in COMMERCIAL CONTRACTING ONLY, contact the local county building official for a possible permit/license.

All Residential Builders, Maintenance and Alteration contractors who repair, alter or improve a residential structure are required to be licensed with the Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth (DLEG), Residential Builders, Maintenance & Alteration Contractors Board at (517) 241-9288.

For an out-of-state corporation/existing business a "Certificate of Authority" should be obtained from the Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth (DLEG), Corporations Division at (517) 241-6470 to do business within the State of Michigan.

Persons who use chemicals that are required to seal asphalt parking lots or driveways, should call the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Environmental Hotline at (800) 662-9278 and inquire about the disposal of the sealer cans/bottles.
